The confident pitcher is one who alludes the look of “having been there before”.

The confident pitcher looks like they are playing on “easy mode”…because they are.

The confident pitcher is not rattled or shaken when a teammate commits an error.

There are only two ways that this confidence is born in a pitcher:

1. Past success

2. Created by the mind.

Either way, confidence is created…

It is created by the pitcher having prior success statistically against opposing hitters. The more that this happens, confidence naturally arises. The downside to this is that having prior success statistically against opposing hitters is not totally in a pitcher’s control. There is another competing athlete standing 60 feet 6 inches away simultaneously looking to control the count and dominate the pitcher by putting the barrel of the bat on ball.

What is 100% in a pitchers control is what he feeds the mind…

Positive thoughts turn into positive action…

In simple terms, energy alters energy.

A pitcher who believes they will have success has unlocked the most powerful skill there is to possess: confidence.

This does not refer to the pitchers who are “all talk” but rather the pitchers who within themselves know that they are well prepared and ready to compete at their individual highest level.

Where does this self-analysis, reflection, and visualization occur?

It can happen with a pitching coach who possesses that rare “feel factor”…

Or, it can happen with you.

As a daily practice.

A meditation practice.

Each day, carve out a few minutes and reflect on how you have grown as a pitcher...

Maybe you are reflecting on a recent bullpen where you felt extremely live.

Maybe you are reflecting on your last start or relief appearance and how good it felt to throw more first pitch strikes than you ever have before.

Maybe you are visualizing a new changeup grip that you want to have better feel with...

Maybe you are visualizing and simulating a bullpen in your mind?

-Fastball In

-Fastball Out

-Fastball Up

Regardless of what takes place during this daily practice, you are creating and growing confidence.

Confidence is created by you.
